In my blog I will be talking about social media and teens. I will have five posts relating to social media and teens those topics will be about: bullying, suicide, drinking, smoking weed, and teen pregnancies. Two of my other post will be coming from a book called 50 Essays and I will be summarizing "Is Google Making us Stupid?" by Nicholas Carr and "A Reunion with Boredom" by Charles Simic. I will also be linking my classmates Melanie blog because she talks about teen depression. I will about be talking about teen violence, teens lives not and how social networking tied to teen drugs and alcohol use.

Social Networking Tied to Teen Drug, Alcohol Use(Free Post)

Teens that use social media like Facebook and Twitter and other networks may drink alcohol, smoke or use other drugs. It's more like what they see on these sites that make them want to try it. Teens see other teen’s pictures of drink peers or pictures of them using drugs. CASA's reports shows that nine out of ten teen parents don't think the internet would promote drugs and alcohol like it really does. Most teens are always one their phone or watching television discovering new things which plays a hug toll on the teens. Teens who watch reality shows like Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, Gossip Girls, etc. are mostly to see alcohol or drugs on the show.

I think it all boils down to their parents.Where are the parents to put a stop it. Nowadays parents let their child so anything and everything they want. With that where is the discipline in all that? If the teens lost all respect for their parents. There goes their relationship of trust and honestly. Most parents would do everything and anything for their child and that still isn't enough.Teens are always one their phone or watching television discovering new things which plays a hug toll on the teens. Where are the parents teaching their child right from wrong? Maybe it’s the parents fault for not being there for their child aligned.

Teens and Violence(Free Post)

Violence among young people has been increasing. Today child growing further and further away from their parents and family members. Some teens grew up by other teens and adults who are criminals. Today teens can easily ask alcohol and drugs, which would result in conflict. Changes in family, schools and communities can teach teen conflicts with violence and aggression is starting to get bad among our young generation. Also some teens to violence as a type of bullying and some bully may beat the kid just just for fun. We need to put a stop to it before teen over populate jails and prisons.

Teens Lives Now(Free Post)

Phone keep teens busy for hours on end. They're always on their phone, texting, facebooking, snap chatting and Instagraming. Teen’s now-a-days chat in the phone rather than in person hanging in person. When it comes to being honest to a friend, it’s harder to tell them in person then through your phone. Kids now days would text all kinds of things they wouldn't say in person. Teens are never alone. They have friends that update their status', share what they are doing, share what they're watching, reading, listening to and they also show where they are at all the time.

Soon technology will rule or lives. It's likes a video I watched a few weeks back. It covered how technology has grown so much in this generation. More people are meeting online rather than in person, less people pen and paper, they do their assignments on some electronic whether it's a laptop, phone or tablet. Shopping as grown to a whole new level you can use your phone with a square gadget and that swipes the card. Soon robots will be designed, I hope. I'm tired of doing the dishes everyday. Soon everyone will be do dependent on technology.

Classmates Blog

Depression is a big thing while teens are growing up. As they grow through puberty life is kind of tough for them. Some teens overreact and they may think some thinks didn't go their way. Not only has that but the bullying played a huge role with depression. As my classmate Melanie talks how bullying lead to depression and in some cases like this one.

Growing up I was one of those kids that were fortunate to get anything and everything I wanted. I had to easy life. It wasn't tell I reach have my first semester of college that I really knew what it was like to become sad not depression because of my stupid actions.

"A Reunion with Boredom"

In Charles Simic article "A Reunion with Boredom" he talks about how boring it would be with electrics. He says "Being temporarily unable to use the technology we've grown dependent on to inform ourselves about the rest of the world, communicate with other, and pass time, is a reminder of our alarming dependence on them" (2011). How would it be with no television, no, phones, no computers and no Facebook! What would teens do without electrics?

I'm sure people more then half of the world had grown dependent on electricity if the power turned off right now I'm sure half of use wouldn't know how to survive this winter. There would be no heat, no running water, no television, and no Internet.  Even though people aren't worried about electricity when they should be. Their all worried about social media and internet turning off because everybody hates slow internet. I'm sure people become bored by his/her's phone.  I don't am always distracted from all the electrics around me. There are too many things we can do with our phones and tablets that can easily get distracted by Facebook, Instagram or shopping sites etc.

"Is Google Making us Stupid?"

“Is Google Making Us Stupid?” By Nicholas Carr talk about how using technology has been negatively affecting our brains. He talks about how we can us for Internet for almost anything. Our generation has grown dependent on the Internet. Now you and just click on some words that are hyperlinked to it takes you to a whole new site. He also talks about how google is always getting off topic with all the things we can find on google.(2008)

I grow up using computers and floppy disks in elementary school. In some way google is making up stupid. You can just Google what you are trying to look for and the answers come up. In other ways it’s helpful because soon everything will be on our devices and we won’t be lugging around heavy book. When I am doing my assigned homework I am always getting distracted by my phone because I’m checking Facebook to stay update with this world. Also if were trying to anything and our phone goes off were more than likely to drop everything were doing to check why it went off.

Teen Pregnancies

Who would have known about two in every five teens become pregnant! 82 percent of the pregnancies are unplanned. When a teenage mother becomes pregnant it's mostly that child also gives birth at a young age. Teen pregnancies don’t receive prenatal care during their first trimester with that later in their pregnancy can lead to problems. If the mother want to abort he baby the sooner the better. Most teen hide their pregnancy from their parents. When teens become pregnant they have a few options: have the baby aborted, have the baby or place it for adoption. With some of these choices like abortions is a huge toll for a young teenager to go through. Some teen pregnancy may travel hundreds of miles just to be the procedure done.

In the Northwest part of Alaska where I live teens were getting pregnant left and right. For twelve year-olds in sixth grade to senior varsity basketball players were pregnant. Some girls were having babies with adults and the law wasn't enforced. In most places the adult would get find for rape. It experience first hand. Teenage pregnancies became a trend. I need stop teen pregnancies because it's starting to spread like a wild fire. It isn't only in the Northwest part of Alaska you see it everyone.

Teens Smoking Weed

According to CNN teens who smoked week before the age of 17 are 60 percent less likely to receive a high school diploma, than those who don’t smoke wee. Research shows that 30 year olds who smoked throughout their while life grow dependent on welfare to support themselves. Also adolescents are 18 times more likely to become dependent on week and seven time more like to kill themselves and are eight more times likely to try different drugs.

I don’t smoke week but, I don’t agree with this article because some young adults who are going to school dependent on weed to stay in school, because if it weren’t for weed they’d be drop outs. I know a person who smoked weed multiple times a day and graduated high school with honors. Also weed is nothing like alcohol. When you get high you don’t go and get all crazy off of little things like something staring at someone. I got disappointed when I found out that marijuana go legalized here in Alaska because it causes so many problems to the brain and lungs.

Underage Drinking

Drinking promotes so many negative habits in their lives: killing their selves, ruthless actions, unprotected sex, and later in their lives they inhabit alcohol problems later in life. American Indians and Native Americans are more as risk than other ethnic groups to develop alcohol problems. There are a few causes encourage underage drinking: family and peers, inheritances, and personality traits. With teen drinking there are more many concerns when they consume alcohol like: long lasting health problems, deadly crashes and sexual abuse. When underage teens drink they cannot control it and most teens black out and some even get alcohol poison.

I can bet anything that you were underage when you first tried alcohol. I'm  sure we all remember when we tried alcohol for the first time also.  I remember when I first had mine. I think the exposure plays a gigantic role. If teens see their parents, friends, television and media makes them want to drink. Some teens are also peer pressured to drinking and if they don't drink the teem may feel left out so they drink to try to fit in.

Suicide Among Teens

Suicide among Native American teens are high, the rate is three times more than national averages. For Native-American males the rate is seven times more than other Americans. Annually twelve out of hundred teens killed themselves.  The Native American teens are between 15-24 years-olds. Some areas the tribes established a suicide prevention camp for teens that abused alcohol and drugs, bullied, and unloved.  In the Northwest where I live statistics show forty percent of males that committed suicide consumed alcohol. Boys and men have a harder time than the girls and ladies. Young girls were having babies, so they had to stay on top of everything else like school, chores and taking care of elders and brothers and sisters. Men on the other had a hard time finding or keeping a job. To hunt you need money and many people don’t have the money go out and hunt geese, moose, caribou, and seal. In the article Maniilaq Association and a few other companies developed camps to tried and help the teens. In some cases it helped, but in others the teens took their own live

Where I live we are number for so many things. Suicide and aids are two things you will find that are spreading like a wild fire. In four months the Northwest had four deaths relating to suicide, in all these deaths alcohol was involved. I wish there is a way to end this ongoing tragedy. We all need to make a change and turn the leaf. Where I grew up child were abused they don't have anyone to turn to and they think it's the way out, but it's not. Another reason teens would commit suicide is because of bullying. Then their problems would just keep adding up and they may think they don't belong in this world.

Bullying and Youth Leaders

Social media and bullying is getting bad with our young generation. Some teens are committing suicide because they cannot handle the abuse some students are giving them. Where I grew up they made a group of 120+ students to reach out and help students that are getting bullied throughout the region called the Youth Leaders. Say a student was getting bullied in the hallway in school if a group member saw them getting bullied they would try to stop it and prevent it from happening again. They go to classrooms and give presentation on what bullying does to students. In some cases they do interventions. It is a year round thing and every summer all the top students on the group gets to go Hawaii for a week as a reward on how much they've done as a leader during the school year. They don't just go to Hawaii for fun; they do different activities to teach them about different leadership skill.
In the video I don't know Levi personally but he had the biggest heart for himself, school, family and friends. As I would pass by him through the four corners of Kotzebue High School he would always have the biggest smile on his face saying hello to everyone that passes him. Levi is right word do hurt. He is so brave to be posting this because I am sure other like Levi are struggling to keep everything in, I'm also sure this video was has inspired so many other teen out there that are suffering from being bullied. For the people that never had been bullied before this is how it feels from a bullied students point of view. This post probably saved someones life who knows. Spreading awareness for trying to stop bullying are hard because this world is being cruel more and more each and everyday.
